The #1 Thing You Need to Manage Change Like A Pro

Whether you’re new to me and my work or not, I’m willing to bet that you’d agree:

Change is a doozy– no matter what kind.

It can be both daunting and exciting and nerve-wracking and mind-blowing. All at once, no less!

But there is one thing in particular that can make change feel more manageable. That keeps you grounded no matter what.

Confidence.

Take some of my clients as proof. They commonly cite our work together as the reason behind their newfound sense of:

  • Clarity

  • Self-awareness

  • Emotional stability

  • Resilience

  • And more!

But whenever I dig deeper and ask what these things have afforded them, they always say the magic word: Confidence

My approach to empowering my clients to get their confidence back when moving through change is specific to each client, but my formula is always the same–– I create a unique blend of mindfulness and mindset work.

Here’s why:

Mindfulness provides the opportunity to discover how your mind works, become aware of what you’re thinking, and be kind to yourself along the way. It’s only once you have the awareness that the mindset work can begin.

What’s “mindset work”? It’s the process of shifting how you think and perceive things. This is how you begin to create your reality, transforming life events into things that happen for you, rather than to you.

I’ve never shared why mindfulness is such a big part of my life and work before, but today I want to change that. Keep reading to hear a story of how and why mindfulness has and continues to have such a profound impact on me and my life.

WHY MINDFULNESS IS KEY TO MY APPROACH.

I’ve had a mindfulness practice for 7 years (child’s play... trust me).

And unlike other interests I’ve had, I don’t feel any rumblings of the 7 year itch.

Not even a little.

Because mindfulness is something that — while the practice itself doesn’t change — evolves over time. Nuanced by nature, there’s this ongoing opportunity to peel back the layers of its significance and meaning over time.

I recently discovered such a layer.

A layer that made me pause. That gave me the kind of “aha” moment that can only be summarized in two words:

Mind. Blown.

THE WORDS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING.

How, you ask?

Two quotes that came across my plate, found while exploring different areas of personal interest over the past week.

First, I discovered this:

“If you never sit still, it does not even hint to that deeper self in you that you are interested.

By practice, by showing up, we are signaling that deep motor, that hum of life, that we are ready: Help us. Pay attention and lead us out of our confusion.”

– Natalie Goldberg

^^ This struck me, deeply. But the gravity of its meaning didn’t hit me until I read the below a few days later:

“Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.”

– Simone Weil

The wisdom in these words helped me realize that

Practicing mindfulness is another way of telling and showing yourself that you’re worthy.

Of your time.

Of your attention.

Of your care.

Of your interest.

Of your presence.

It’s a way to give back to yourself. And to allow yourself to be fully and wholeheartedly seen.

WHY IT MATTERS.

This is undoubtedly one of the deepest, core desires of all humankind.

We’re social beings, so the ability to connect with others while being ourselves – to be worthy of their time and attention – is a key component of our survival. Needless to say, it’s crucial for our happiness too.

Mindfulness takes things a step further and facilitates a deep connection within. It creates a solid, unshakeable foundation of connection so that you don’t have to rely on others to access your sense of worth.

In other words, mindfulness helps you cultivate confidence from within.

To me, that’s priceless.
